The Chinese Canadian Association of Kingston and District (CCAKD) is inviting the public to celebrate the Lunar New Year by joining a 3D paper lantern origami workshop at the Kingston Frontenac Public Library’s Isabel Turner Branch on January 25.

Yan Mak, the workshop’s host, said the event is a great way to connect with Chinese culture. “The Lunar New Year is a time of many celebrations,” said Mak. “This is an exciting opportunity to participate in cultural exchange, promote heritage and learn about the significance of Chinese lanterns and how to make one yourself.”

The Lantern Festival marks the first full moon of the Lunar New Year, and it’s a tradition for many nations and cultures. People typically let go of the past year and welcome the new year with good fortune.

Registration is required for the program, which runs from 6:30-7:30 p.m on January 25. Space is limited. Register online or call 613-549-8888.
