The City of Kingston invites nominations for its 2024 Civic Awards, aimed at recognizing individuals who have made significant volunteer contributions to the community. This initiative seeks to honor those whose efforts have positively impacted the city and its residents.
The awards are segmented into two main categories: the First Capital Distinguished Citizen Award and the Honourable Achievement Award, which are open to volunteers of all ages. The First Capital Distinguished Citizen Award is dedicated to celebrating an individual’s lifetime commitment to volunteerism, whereas the Honourable Achievement Awards spotlight volunteers for specific contributions.
Additionally, the Mayor’s Awards for Youth Volunteerism are designed to acknowledge young volunteers across three age groups: elementary, high school, and post-secondary up to age 24. These awards aim to recognize youth who exhibit leadership, care, compassion, the capacity to overcome personal challenges, the motivation of others, or the application of special skills to enhance the quality of life within the community.
Individuals interested in nominating a deserving community member can do so online at CityofKingston.ca/CivicAwards or by submitting a completed nomination form in person at City Hall or various City of Kingston recreation centers including Artillery Park Aquatic Centre, INVISTA Centre, Kingston East Community Centre, and Rideau Heights Community Centre.
The deadline for nomination submissions is set for 4 p.m. on Friday, April 19, after which all nominations will be vetted for eligibility before being forwarded to the selection committee for review.
The City plans to honor the Civic Award winners during a City Council meeting in June.
