City Announces Opening of New Warming & Counselling Centre

The City of Kingston has announced that its newest warming centre has opened at 235 Wellington Street, offering warmth and counselling services seven days a week, 8pm to 8am, from January to April.

“We’re excited for the opportunity to provide immediate relief from the cold while providing longer-term solutions like counselling,” said Tom Greening, Executive Director of Home Base Housing in a release. “For many, the centre may be an entry-point into a larger solution for sustainable housing.”

Funded by the City and KFL&A Public Health, the Kingston Warming & Counselling Centre is operated by multiple health and social service providers that include Home Base Housing, Kingston Community Health Centres and Providence Care. The centre has served approximately 90 individuals since opening earlier this month.

“This is a collaborative solution to a community issue,” said Ruth Noordegraaf, Director, Housing and Social Services. “We’re proud to be funding the centre, but the real story is the hard work and close collaboration of the many agencies providing these critical services every night until April.”

You can contact the Kingston Warming & Counselling Centre at 613-561-4618 between 8pm and 8am.  Additional information can also be found at the City’s Extended Health Benefits page.
