Input Sought on New Sidewalk Rest Areas in Kingston

The City of Kingston is inviting residents to suggest locations for potential rest areas along three new sidewalks that are planned for 2021, as part of its continuing goal to make it easier to get around the city through active modes of transportation

Current planned rest area locations are Collins Bay Rd. between Aylmer and Edwin (west side), Gardiners Rd. between Cataraqui Woods and Norris Court (west side), and Gardiners Rd. between Princess and O’Connor (east side).

“We want to ensure residents that use this route have the opportunity to weigh in on the best locations for rest areas. Feedback received during this engagement will be considered in finalizing the sidewalk design,” said Matt Wood, Project Manager, Transportation Services.

According to a City release: these new sidewalks were identified as part of the City’s 5-year Active Transportation Implementation Plan (ATIP) as they will fill in gaps in the City’s sidewalk network. Improving walkability is one of Council’s strategic priorities.

Input on the rest areas can be made at the project’s Get Involved Kingston page and will be open for public input until February 9 with construction beginning later this year.
