Level One Fire Ban Issued in South Frontenac

South Frontenac Fire Chief Del Blakney has issued a Level One Fire Ban effective Thursday, October 24, 2024. Under this ban, residents are prohibited from setting off fireworks or engaging in any open-air burning of materials such as grass, brush, or other combustibles. However, campfires and cooking fires remain permitted.

“It has been a dry October, and no substantial rain is predicted in the forecast,” said Blakney. “The ground is extremely dry, and yesterday (October 23, 2024) all eight South Frontenac Fire Stations, with assistance from Central Frontenac, were involved in fighting two wildfires. We must be vigilant to keep South Frontenac wildlife and residents safe from wildfire.”

Fire season in South Frontenac typically runs from April 1 to October 31. While the current Level One Fire Ban allows for campfires and cooking fires, a Total Fire Ban would prohibit all open-air burning, including those for cooking and campfires. Residents are encouraged to subscribe to the Fire Ban Status page on the Township’s website for updates on any changes to the fire ban status. Although a permit is not required for open-air burning, any such fires must be supervised at all times as outlined by the Township’s Open Air Burning By-law.
