A detailed implementation plan and design for Lake Ontario Park will presented at a a public meeting in Kingston on Monday, November 1st. It will be held in the Press Lounge at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, at 59 Yonge Street.
The plans can be viewed beginning at 7 p.m. that evening and a meeting and presentation will start at 7:30 p.m.
A Master Plan Concept for Lake Ontario Park was approved by City Council in November 2009 after three years of extensive public consultation. Since then, City officials and a consulting team have been involved with designing a detailed plan for the Park. The final design takes into account elements of the Master Plan Concept and incorporates them into the actual landscape of the park.
Features to be presented at this meeting will include: a play area, splash pad, pathways, parking, lookouts, picnic areas, road repair, shoreline improvements, terraces and park architecture. With a proposed budget of $4.5 million, the group was able to take into consideration the existing site topography, ensure a reduced impact on the tree canopy, and improve accessibility to the site.
The plans will be online for viewing and commenting on October 29 at www.cityofkingston.ca/lop. Comments from the public will be accepted until December 1.
In accordance with the approved concept plan for Lake Ontario Park, some of the older buildings on the site will be removed to prepare for construction to occur in 2011. That demolition work is scheduled to take place this fall.
