Kingston Area Recycling Centre to Fully Reopen with Changes

The Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC), 196 Lappan’s Lane, is set to fully reopen on August 31 with facility hours returning to normal, but some operations being changed to accommodate measures related to the current pandemic that are listed on this KARC webpage.

“We wanted to let residents know what the new normal will look like at the Kingston Area Recycling Centre, so they will know what to expect when they visit that location” said Brandi Timpson, Acting Director, Solid Waste.

Also announced in a City release is that Blue and Grey Boxes are again available at KARC and City Hall and collectors will no longer pick up items put out in makeshift boxes as of September 8.

Programs cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic include the November curbside collection of used single-use batteries, although batteries can still be dropped off at the Household Hazardous Waste Depot (), and KARC tours and school presentations. However, Sustainable Kingston has produced a variety of short videos suitable for school programming.

Hours of Operation:

Administrative Buildings

    • Main office is open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Recycling Depot scalehouse is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Recycling Depot

    • Open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Up to 10 residents will be allowed to access the Recycling Depot at KARC at a time to allow space for physical distancing.

Leaf and Yard Waste Site

    • Open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Household Hazardous Waste Depot

    • Open Thursdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Will no longer operate on Fridays.
