Actor Jeremy Renner was injured in a weather-related accident today while plowing snow near his home in the Mount Rose Highway area of Nevada, according to a statement from his publicist, Sam Mast. Renner is currently in critical but stable condition at a local hospital, and his family is by his side.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident and, coordinating with Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and REMSA Health, arranged for Renner to be transported via air ambulance to hospital. The extent of Renner’s injuries and the cause of the accident have not yet been disclosed, and the Major Accident Investigation Team is currently looking into the circumstances.

Eyewitnesses told TMZ that Renner was plowing the road about a quarter mile from his Tahoe home so that his family could leave after a severe winter storm on New Year’s Eve.

According to a neighbor, the Snowcat machine accidentally ran over one of Renner’s legs, causing significant blood loss. A doctor who lived nearby was able to apply a tourniquet to the injury until paramedics arrived on the scene.

The Academy Award nominated actor is best known for his roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films and currently stars in the Paramount+ series “Mayor of Kingstown,” co-created by Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone) and the Kingston-born and raised actor and Headstones band frontman, Hugh Dillon.

The show has parallels with Dillon’s hometown, which was named “King’s Town” or “the King’s Town” in 1787 in honour of King George III, before being shortened to Kingston the following year, according to a Kingston Historical Society archived chronology. Similar to the fictional Kingstown’s prison industry, Kingston has the largest concentration of prisons in Canada, which included for many years the Prison for Women (closed in 2000) and Kingston Penitentiary (closed in 2013), which was used as a filming location in the show’s first season.

Season Two of “Mayor of Kingstown” is scheduled to begin on Paramount+ on January 15.

UPDATE: According to a representative, Jeremy Renner is now out of surgery after suffering blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries in a weather-related accident. He remains in the intensive care unit in “critical but stable condition.”

“Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve and the Carano and Murdock families,” the statement continued. “They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.”
