The City of Kingston has invited residents to actively participate in the formulation of the 2024 operating and capital budgets. The goal is to gain valuable feedback from the community on future budget engagements, allowing citizens to influence how their tax dollars are allocated.
Desiree Kennedy, Chief Financial Officer and City Treasurer, stressed the importance of informed citizen engagement in the budgeting process. “It is crucial for Kingstonians to understand the city’s budget process and have the opportunity to influence the allocation of funds,” Kennedy stated. “We encourage residents to provide input on their priorities and concerns. This budget directly impacts our community, so your participation is essential.”
Residents can take part by visiting the “Get Involved Kingston” project page and completing a survey, which aims to gauge their preferences and ideas regarding future budget engagements. Additionally, city officials are planning in-person pop-up events later this summer to enable direct interactions with the community. Details about the pop-ups will be posted on the “Get Involved Kingston” project page.
To ensure accessibility, the city is offering alternatives for participating in the survey. Those who prefer to complete it by phone or receive a mailed copy can call 613-546-0000 to request assistance.
