Unconscious Impaired Driver Found 5 Meters from Railway Crossing

Kingston Police report a 29 year old local man has been charged with impaired driving after being found passed out behind the wheel of running vehicle.

Officers were dispatched to John Counter Boulevard on November 18 at about 5am to investigate a report of an unconscious man in a vehicle. Upon arrival, the vehicle was found to be running with its brake lights on, straddling the center line and within approximately five metres of a railway crossing near the VIA rail station. [map]

The driver was woken up and initially placed the vehicle in park but then switched it back into drive. At that point, an officer opened the door and put it back into park.

The accused was subsequently arrested and transported to police headquarters where he refused to provide breath samples.

He was charged with impaired driving and fail to provide breath sample, then later released with a future court date.

The man’s driver’s licence is automatically suspended for 90 days and will be suspended for one year if convicted. The vehicle was seized and impounded for seven days, with the accused being responsible for all fees and fines.
