Free N95 Masks Available to Tackle Poor Air Quality

Published on: 2023/07/07 - in News

Community members in areas with poor air quality will now have access to free N95 masks through various Cool-Down locations in the city. The Ministry of Health has provided these masks in response to the current and projected deterioration in outdoor air quality due to nearby wildfires. KFL&A Public Health defines poor air quality as an Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) rating of 7 or higher.

In addition to N95 masks, the designated Cool-Down Locations will also distribute COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT). This initiative comes after the conclusion of the Provincial Rapid Antigen Test Program, allowing any community member to pick up free tests at the designated Cool-Down Locations in Kingston.

To stay informed, it is recommended to regularly check the AQHI (Air Quality Health Index) for the Kingston region, as air quality conditions may change.
