Effective today, March 19, Kingston Transit is asking passengers to board and exit buses using the back doors. Passengers with accessibility needs are allowed to continue using the front doors for boarding and exiting but should limit their interactions with bus operators.
Kingston Transit says all passengers will ride for free – they will not be accepting cash fares or paper transfers nor do passengers need to tap their transit passes.
These changes are being implemented to protect the health and safety of bus operators and will remain in effect until April 5, 2020.
To limit the spread of COVID-19, Kingston Transit states it is continuing to:
- ensure increased sanitizing practices on all common touchpoints aboard buses.
- deliver essential public transportation service across Kingston on a reduced Saturday and Sunday schedule.
- ask passengers to exercise social distance when seating themselves on the bus, including not sitting in seats directly behind operators
- assist passengers with lost and found and trip planning service by phone only at 613-546-0000.
