Forbes has announced its 2017 list of Canada’s Best Employers, revealing that Queen’s University in Kingston was ranked #1 in the country.

The ratings were determined by Forbes, working with online statistics provider Statista, who asked over 8,000 workers to rank – on a scale of zero to ten – how likely they would be to recommend their employer to a friend or family member and/or if they would recommend another company within their industry.

The results were then used to rank 300 employers, all with more than 500 workers, from 25 industries that included nonprofit institutions government departments & agencies, and local multinational divisions

This year, Queen’s University leaped from its 17th place rank in 2016 to become the nation’s best employer in 2017, scoring 9.18 out of 10 overall. Forbes described Queen’s as offering competitive salaries along with a host of benefits and pension coverage.

The article also cited the university’s website statement, committing Queen’s to “employment equity and diversity, welcoming applications from women, visible minorities, aboriginal people, persons with disabilities, and persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity”.
