Canadian Museum of Women’s History to Host Exhibit Celebrating Kingston’s Pioneering Women

In recognition of Women’s History Month, the Canadian Museum of Women’s History will host a one-day exhibit titled HERstory Kingston on October 5th, 2024. The event, which will take place from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Kingston City Hall’s Memorial Hall, will highlight the significant contributions of women to Kingston’s cultural, social, and political landscape. Admission will be free.

The HERstory Kingston exhibit will focus on the narratives of women who have played pivotal roles in shaping the city, from early trailblazers to modern figures. It aims to educate the community about the vital role women have played in Kingston’s development and inspire future generations through the stories of women who have influenced both the local area and broader society.

The Canadian Museum of Women’s History is inviting community support for the exhibit, with donations of $25 or more eligible for a tax receipt. Contributions can be made via email at Lifetimecircles12@gmail.com.

The Canadian Museum of Women’s History, which organized the event, is a newly established not-for-profit entity focused on the creation of Canada’s first museum dedicated exclusively to women’s history. The exhibit represents the organization’s commitment to advancing the recognition of women’s stories as part of the national historical narrative. The event is being delivered with support from the City of Kingston, the Kingston and Area Association of Museums, Art Galleries, and Historic Sites, and Awesome Kingston.

Heather Morrison, Founder of the Canadian Museum of Women’s History, said, “History is a living document we write every day. Canada is a democracy with expansive rights and freedoms, yet women’s contributions remain largely overlooked. The victories of the women’s movement are a blueprint for solving social injustices, and the creation of this national museum is democracy in action.”
