Man Arrested After Attempted Robbery of Uncooperative Victim

Kingston Police reported today that a local 24 year old man has been charged after displaying a knife while attempting to commit a robbery downtown.

The incident happened on Saturday, August 5 at approximately 7:15 pm when the man approached the victim on Princess Street near Bagot Street.

After showing that he had a knife at his waist, he told the victim he was being robbed, but the victim refused to cooperate and walked away.  The suspect did not attempt to follow, likely because the were a number of other people in the vicinity, and left the scene on foot.

Kingston Police officers spotted a man matching the description downtown at about 11:50 pm that same night.

He was subsequently arrested and searched, with officers finding a 12″ kitchen knife and a small amount of suspected marijuana.

The man was taken to police headquarters and held to attend a bail hearing the next day. He has since been charged  with robbery, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and 6 counts of breach probation.
