Kingston residents John Rahey and Sandra Goudey have won a $1 million MAXMILLIONS prize in the August 6, 2024, LOTTO MAX draw. The couple, who have been playing the lottery together for more than two decades, purchased the winning ticket at Pioneer/On the Run on Midland Avenue in Kingston.

Rahey discovered the win after using the OLG app to check their ticket before leaving for work. “I was shocked when I saw the ‘Big Winner’ message and the prize amount,” Rahey said, noting that this was their first major prize. The pair traveled to the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect their winnings. Goudey initially expressed disbelief at their good fortune, saying, “At first, I didn’t believe him and made him check our ticket again. I didn’t believe it until we spoke with OLG.”

Both Rahey and Goudey have enjoyed playing a variety of lottery games over the years, including LOTTO MAX, LOTTO 6/49, and occasional INSTANT tickets. Reflecting on the experience, Goudey noted, “I enjoy playing LOTTO MAX. It’s fun!” Rahey added his belief in staying hopeful, concluding, “You have to keep the faith and believe it’s possible to win.”

The couple plans to use their winnings toward their retirement.

Since 2009, Ontario LOTTO MAX players have won more than $8 billion, which includes 108 jackpot wins and 919 MAXMILLIONS prizes distributed across the province. LOTTO MAX draws are held on Tuesdays and Fridays at a cost of $5 per play.
