Kingston “green thumbs and local food enthusiasts” are being invited to attend and contribute ideas toward the local community garden network.

Mara Shaw, executive director of Loving Spoonful, stated in a release that the session “is about further nurturing our growing network of active gardens to produce economical, nutritious local food.”

Loving Spoonful is a local healthy food charity administering the Kingston Community Gardens Network.

Session attendees will be presented with a brief history of community gardening in Kingston and will be asked to offer their own ideas on developing and supporting a dynamic local network of community gardens.

“We want to know how we can best support a vibrant community garden network by making use of the best ideas from other communities and from our wonderful local gardeners,” said Denita Arthurs, assistant supervisor, recreation programs.

The Kingston Community Gardens Network is a partnership of Loving Spoonful, the City of Kingston, and the Oak St. Garden.

The organization was created to support the establishment of new community gardens on public or private lands and to assist other community gardens.
