City of Kingston departments and City-funded external agencies and boards will begin 2020 budget presentations to Council on Monday, November 25.
According to a release, a tax-supported operating budget of $400 million will be presented to Council – incorporating a 1.5 per cent tax rate increase in addition to 1 per cent for capital infrastructure, along with a 2020 capital budget of $167.5 million.
“These budgets reflect Council’s strategic priorities and fiscal direction that were established earlier this year as part of Council’s strategic planning exercise,” states the City release. “The 2020 municipal budgets have been developed to maintain consistent service levels incorporating inflationary impacts, growth-related demands and additional support to Council’s strategic capital priorities.”
Departments and agencies will present to Council at 6pm over three nights as follows: external agency/board presentations on November 25; Municipal budget overview and City department presentations on November 26, to be followed by budget deliberations; and additional deliberations, if required, will take place on November 27 at 6pm.
The budget deliberations will be held in Council Chambers at City Hall, 216 Ontario Street, and are open to the public. The City will also be live tweeting from the budget meetings @KingstonMeeting and using #ygkbudget.
