Construction is scheduled to start on the first phase of Bayridge Drive’s active transportation improvements, marking a significant milestone for the area. The project aims to establish a safe and interconnected pathway for pedestrians and cyclists, linking Henderson Boulevard to Cataraqui Woods Drive.
Starting in early July, motorists should anticipate lane reductions as crews work on installing the new pathways and upgrading intersections along the corridor. While these temporary inconveniences may arise, the overall impact of the project will be advantageous to all Bayridge Drive users.
According to Danny Potts, Project Manager of Transportation Services, the project holds great significance for the city’s cycling network. Potts stated, “This project is an important corridor in our build-out of the City-wide cycling network. It is very much needed to address gaps and barriers in the existing cycling and pedestrian infrastructure in this area. This will dramatically improve north-south connections along Bayridge Drive for pedestrians and cyclists and create connections into express transit service along the corridor.”
The initial phase will focus on the section from Cataraqui Woods Drive to Woodbine Road, while the subsequent phase two, set to commence later this year, will encompass the stretch from Woodbine Road to Henderson Boulevard. The project also includes upgrading the signalized intersections along the corridor to ensure accessibility for people of all ages and abilities.
Apart from the active transportation improvements, the project entails roadwork and storm sewer construction on Bayridge Drive between Princess Street and Cataraqui Woods Drive. Additionally, sidewalk repair and construction will be conducted to address existing gaps in the pedestrian infrastructure.
