Local artists in Kingston have the opportunity to apply for the 2023 Local Arts Residency at the Kingston Grand Theatre. The program is aimed at emerging or mid-career professional artists or collectives who work in theatre, dance, music, circus, comedy, or interdisciplinary practices. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at 5 p.m.

The program, now in its third year, offers four residencies that provide local performing artists with space and support to create and explore new directions in their work. The residency will take place in July 2023, with two residencies running simultaneously over the course of two weeks. The Kingston Grand Theatre will become a hub of local artistic activity during this time.

The residency is offered in two locations within the Kingston Grand Theatre: the Baby Grand, a black box theatre, and the Regina Rosen Auditorium, a performance hall. The 2023 residencies will take place on July 4-7 and July 25-28, 2023.

Selected artists-in-residence will receive in-kind use of a professional workspace featuring state-of-the-art equipment and professional support in technical production. They will also receive an honorarium of $1,000. Videos that capture the behind-the-scenes look at the residencies will be created for promotion and public awareness.

“We have so many incredible artists in Kingston and this residency offers an opportunity to further help develop and nurture that talent,” said Danika Lochhead, Manager, Arts and Sector Development. “Now in its third year, the Residency program has become an annual artist development initiative for Arts & Culture Services and has had great success in bringing artists together in the Kingston Grand Theatre to collaborate, connect and create.”
