Eight local residents have claimed a $500,000 MAXMILLIONS prize from the August 9, 2024, LOTTO MAX draw. The group, who have been playing the lottery together for eight years, purchased the winning ticket at Canadian Tire Gas+ on Princess Street in Kingston.
The winners include Robert Langille of Kingston, Bradley Greenaway of Bath, Aaron Amey of Napanee, Michael Wolfgram of Elginburg, Donley Kellar of Harrowsmith, Francis McMullen of Verona, Randy Rees of Gananoque, and Scott Anglin of Seeley’s Bay. They have been consistently playing LOTTO MAX every Friday, selecting their own numbers.
Michael Wolfgram discovered the win at a local store on a Saturday morning and immediately informed the rest of the group. “I checked our ticket at the corner store on a Saturday morning, and I was caught off guard when I realized we had won,” he said. “I instantly called my wife, and she didn’t believe me,” he added, saying he then contacted each of the group members individually.
The group visited the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) Prize Centre in Toronto to collect their prize. “It was hard to believe,” said Donley Kellar. Scott Anglin remarked that “my wife took out the calculator to see how much each of our shares would be,” while Michael Wolfgram and Francis McMullen described the experience as “a great feeling.”
The group has indicated that their winnings will be used for various purposes, including paying bills, home renovations, vacations, and, in one case, the purchase of a new vehicle. One member plans to invest his share.
LOTTO MAX, which costs $5 per play, holds draws on Tuesdays and Fridays. Since its introduction in 2009, players in Ontario have won over $8 billion, including 106 jackpot wins and 905 MAXMILLIONS prizes across the province.
