The Kingston Arts Council (KAC) and the Community Foundation for Kingston & Area have announced that applications are now open for the 2024 Nan Yeomans Grant for Artistic Development. This year, the grant amount has been increased to $4,000, marking a 60 percent rise in funding since its establishment in 2007. The grant aims to support emerging artists and artisans in the visual media sector to further their artistic growth and professional development.

The Nan Yeomans Grant is awarded annually to one individual between the ages of 17 and 40. It is designed to assist promising young artists and artisans in the greater Kingston area by providing resources for focused training, creation, or educational pursuits to support their career advancement. The fund, which was established by Nan Yeomans through a bequest to the Community Foundation for Kingston & Area, is managed by the Foundation, while the selection process is overseen by the Kingston Arts Council.

According to the Kingston Arts Council, this year’s increase in funding is the first adjustment to the grant amount since its inception and represents a significant step in enhancing the program’s impact on young visual artists. The grant is intended to provide financial support to young artists in the early stages of their careers, particularly those demonstrating financial need.

Eligible applicants must reside in the geographic region served by the Community Foundation for Kingston & Area, which includes Loyalist Township, the City of Kingston, the Township of South Frontenac, the Township of Central Frontenac, the Township of North Frontenac, and the Township of Frontenac Islands. Applicants must also be able to demonstrate their status as emerging artists, defined as individuals in the initial stages of their artistic practice or career with a small body of work and some degree of local recognition or limited public exhibition experience.

The deadline for applications is November 18, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Additional information, including application guidelines and forms, is available on the Kingston Arts Council’s website.
