K-Town Countdown Set to Ring in New Year with Festive Activities

Published on: 2023/12/26 - in News

The INVISTA Centre in Kingston will host the K-Town Countdown on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2023, from 5 to 9 p.m., an event sponsored by Canada Royal Milk featuring a variety of activities for all ages.

This year’s festivities will include public skate parties enhanced with music and lighting, a ‘Zoo-to-You’ reptile exhibit, and live entertainment by Yo-Yo Dave. Additional attractions include face painting, glitter tattoos, and a ‘Build A Friend’ DIY stuffed animal workshop, available while supplies last.

Entry to the event is based on cash donations at the door, with proceeds supporting this year’s charity, Our Relations Land Trust. The donations will contribute to the Climate Action Fund, benefiting the Indigenous Food Sovereignty Garden on Hwy. 15. For donations over $20 requiring a tax receipt, contributors are directed to donate online at Canada Helps.

Canada Royal Milk’s General Manager, Mr. Han, highlighted the company’s community focus: “Canada Royal Milk understands the importance of community because of the hard work and dedication of our more than 160 local, skilled professionals. We are grateful for the opportunity to be a partner in bringing Kingston residents together. As friends, families and loved ones prepare to toast the new year at the INVISTA Centre, we extend a heartfelt season’s greetings and look forward to continuing to give back to our community in 2024.”

New to this year’s event is the “Champagne on Ice” segment, which includes an adult skate and a 19+ comedy show by AB3 Comedy, accompanied by a complimentary New Year’s toast. Jack’s Pro Shop will be available for skate sharpening and rentals.

The event also introduces the first Sensory Skate from 5 – 5:45 p.m. on the Desjardins Insurance rink, designed for a quieter, more subdued skating experience. Non-slip mats and helmets will be provided for non-skating companions.

Attendees can enjoy refreshments at Haymakers Canteen, capture moments in a 360 photobooth, and expect a few surprises. The celebration will culminate with a fireworks display at 9 p.m. in downtown Kingston, courtesy of Kingston Accommodation Partners, with Confederation Park offering the best view.

Kingston Transit will offer regular weekday service with free rides on December 31. Attendees are encouraged to plan their bus trips using a trip planner or transit app.

Volunteers are essential to the success of the K-Town Countdown. Those interested in volunteering can contact Emily at EMatpan@CityofKingston.ca.
