City Leaf collection begins in Kingston next week, starting on November 1st. Residents are asked to have leaf collections at the curb by 8am on the Monday of their designated week, which can be determined by visiting the City’s collection page.
Leaves must be contained in paper leaf bags, or placed loosely in bushel baskets, garbage cans or other rigid-sided receptacles to be collected. The City reports that any plastic bags, or bags that look like plastic, will NOT be picked up.
In addition to leaves, yard waste such as tomato plants and vegetable garden waste – but not brush – can also be put out for collection during leaf collection week. Note that bags or containers of leaves must weigh less than 20 kg (44 lbs).
The City also suggests the option of using your leaves and grass clippings as mulch, leaving them on the lawn to provide nutrition to it over the coming months.
Yard waste can also be composted for use in the garden next year, with back-yard composters available for purchase at the Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC), 196 Lappan’s Lane for $43. KARC is open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5pm and Saturdays 8am to 4pm.
Yard waste can also be dropped off at KARC or at Tomlinson Organics at 2069 Joyceville Rd. Phone 613-546-0884 for its hours of operation.
