Mayor Bryan Paterson recognized the recipients of the 2024 Mayor’s Arts Awards during a reception held in Memorial Hall at City Hall. The annual awards program highlights significant artistic achievements and honors exceptional contributions to the arts.
This year’s recipients were acknowledged in two categories:
- Creator Award: Tyffanie Morgan, Hill Werth, and W.C. Creatives (Jaylene Cardinal and Dakota Ward).
- Arts Champion Award: Sistema Kingston.
Mayor Paterson expressed appreciation for the winners, stating, “Congratulations to the outstanding artists, collectives, and arts supporters who were celebrated last night at the Mayor’s Arts Awards reception! Kingston’s arts community is a cornerstone of our city’s vibrancy and identity. It’s an honour to come together and recognize the remarkable contributions that make Kingston a more creative and inspiring place to live.”
The program, overseen by the City of Kingston’s Arts & Culture Services department in collaboration with the Kingston Arts Council, incorporated several changes this year. For the first time, an open call for nominations was introduced, resulting in 58 submissions evaluated by a Selection Committee. Additionally, award categories were updated to better reflect the diversity of Kingston’s arts community.
The recipients will receive formal recognition from City Council during its meeting tonight.
More information about the program and this year’s awardees can be found on the City of Kingston’s website: Mayor’s Arts Awards.
