Members of the public have been invited to virtually attend the 2021 Mayor’s Arts Awards ceremony and reception where Mayor Bryan Paterson will announce recipients of this year’s program and celebrate their contributions to the arts in Kingston.
The ceremony takes place on Monday, December 6 at 7pm. Due to Covid, it will not open to the public but will be live streamed from the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning on the City’s YouTube channel.
“The vibrancy of our city is anchored by the artists and arts organizations that call Kingston home,” says Danika Lochhead, Manager, Arts & Sector Development. “The annual awards program is a celebration of the artistic talent we have here, and of all those who support, nurture and enhance our arts community.”
The Mayor’s Arts Awards recognizes and celebrates artistic achievement and recognizes extraordinary contributions in and to the arts, affirming the value of the arts in City life. By increasing the profile and appreciation of the arts, the Awards enhance the cultural vitality and civic identity of Kingston.
“The nomination of award recipients is facilitated through the City of Kingston Arts Advisory Committee (AAC) that establishes a Nominations Working Group (NWG) each year for this purpose,” states a City release. “The NWG identifies award recipients according to the program criteria set out in the Terms of Reference. The NWG is comprised of five to seven members who represent a range of interests, experience, and perspectives and who are also respected and knowledgeable regarding the arts in Kingston.”
