Kingston Fire & Rescue (KFR) has enacted a total open-air burn ban that applies to the entire municipality and will remnain in effect until further notice.
“We are focused on providing and maintaining first response emergency services to our community,” said Chief Shawn Armstrong. “The decision to enact an open-air burn ban is a precautionary measure aimed at avoiding any additional strain on our system.”
The ban – in which KFR is joined by its mutual aid partners in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington – applies to cooking fires, consumer fireworks and other types of outdoor burning, but does not include cooking appliances with a mechanical shutoff, i.e. propane or natural gas cooking equipment.
