Save The River / Upper St. Lawrence Riverkeeper, an organization made up of both Canadian and U.S. members committed to protecting, preserving and restoring the Upper St. Lawrence River, hosted its 17th Annual Run for the River 5K/10K race this past Saturday.

Almost 500 participants registered for the race, raising funds and awareness for the agency, with 428 runners and walkers crossing the finish line.

The Run took place in Clayton, NY with participants starting and finishing the race downtown in Frink Park, many crossing the finish line to immediately jumping off the end of Frink Park dock to cool off in the river.

Save The River has united thousands of year-round and seasonal residents on both the U.S. and Canadian sides of the river to ensure the health of the Upper St. Lawrence, which begins near Kingston. Run for the River is the largest fundraiser for Save the River, which is now designated the Upper St. Lawrence Riverkeeper.

The organization is a member of the international Waterkeeper Alliance, the world’s fastest growing environmental movement, with more than 200 local Waterkeepers patrolling rivers, lakes and coastal waterways on 6 continents.

Next year’s Run will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2020.
