SCOREGolf has released its biannual Top 100 list of best golf courses in Canada and one of Kingston’s own has made the cut.

The Cataraqui Golf and Country Club was ranked 82nd nationally – moving up 6 spots from its 2012 ranking by the magazine, who have been grading golf courses for twenty-five years.

A panel of experts – ranging from pro golfers, media members and public players – assessed nine factors for each course to determine its overall rating. Results from this year have been posted to their website and will be the subject of a one hour television special to air on TSN.

Established in 1917, the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club is a private course designed in 1931 by acclaimed Canadian architect, Stanley Thompson.

Thompson also designed courses at Jasper park, Banff springs, Highlands links, and Westmount. In the magazine’s previous top 100 list, 15 of the courses were Thompson designs.

According to Cataraqui.com, the club has hosted events that have included the Ontario Open, Ontario Ladies Amateur, Canadian PGA Senior Championships, and each year hosts the Women’s Eastern Provinces Championship and the Men’s 36 Hole Whig Standard Championship.
