City of Kingston Looking for Remarkable Recyclers

Published on: 2014/09/19 - in Featured Releases

Remarkable Recyclers: the City wants recognize and reward you for your success at diverting waste from landfill.

You may be in a Remarkable Recycler household if:

– You put used paper towels (and greasy pizza boxes) in the Green Bin
– You put cardboard cans with metal ends in the Blue Box – and rinse containers before tossing them in.
– You do the “stretch test” and put clean plastic bags in the Grey Box.

“Participating in the Remarkable Recycler program helps engage your household in sorting waste – and is a great way to introduce kids to the environmental benefits of recycling and why we work to divert waste from landfill,” says Derek Ochej, Public Education Coordinator.

Register to participate by emailing dochej@cityofkingston.ca or by calling the City’s Customer Service Centre at 613-546-0000 by Friday September 26, 2014.

Participants will have their collectibles audited for sorting accuracy the collection week of September 29 or October 6. If your waste is correctly sorted and you’ve set out just one bag of garbage or less, your household will get “Remarkable Recycler” Blue and Grey Boxes, and your name will be entered in a random draw for a Kobo e-reader. Participants must live in a residential home in the city of Kingston with curbside recycling and garbage pick-up to be eligible.
