On Monday, Youth Diversion announced an $11,000 from the RBC Foundation in support of the SNAP Life Skills pilot project supporting youth 15-18 in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington (KFLA)

“We are so pleased to be able to support this innovative pilot program,” said Randy Tredenick,  RBC Royal Bank Regional VP. “Investing in our youth today will set them on the path to success towards education and career in the future.”

RBC Foundation mandate is to work with local community partners to help ensure Canadian youth find and pursue their path to success with confidence.

Youth Diversion is also partnering with ReStart Employment services, Loving Spoonful, and Traditional Excellence Human Performance in delivering the SNAP life Skills pilot.

Executive Director for Youth Diversion, Shawn Quigley, describes the pilot as “an opportunity for at risk youth to be connected with services and skills necessary to overcome the challenges of adolescence. In addition to our community partners, each youth will have access to a Mentor throughout the pilot to provide addition support and guidance.”

The SNAP Life Skills pilot project will provide a six week comprehensive life skills program for at risk youth.

The project is intended to target the necessities of successful living, including employment readiness, food security, financial literacy, team building and engagement with the community.

A unique component of this program is that it offers each participant a limited budget to purchase items such as groceries and employment ready clothing to overcome the barriers that often prevent youth from achiving success in their lives.

The Pilot is set to start in late October and will continue to December.

There are 15 available spots and referrals can be made to Jake Beatty or Nancy Bondy by calling 613-548-4535 ext 225.
