Queen’s University Releases SeQure Mobile Safety App for Students

The Queen’s University Campus Safety Working Group has released SeQure – a safety app for mobile devices with tips, information and tools to enhance the security of students and other members of the University community.

This release is in support of the Working Group’s mandate to “develop policies, programs, services, and informational resources to promote and address student safety”.

Currently the app main screen features ‘Campus Safety News’, fed from Campus Security’s Twitter account, followed by buttons that lead to sections for ‘Emergency Contacts’, the AMS ‘Walkhome’ service,  ‘Student Safety’ information, push-to-call and information from “Campus Security’, and a ‘Personal Safety Toolbox’.

The ‘Personal Safety Toolbox’ includes apps to initiate a ‘Loud Alarm’, a ‘Send Your Location’ feature that enables users to email their location to someone (latitude/longitude with the email containing a link to that location on Google Maps), and to “Report Suspicious Activity” via email to Campus Security – although for emergencies or other serious incidents, users are advised to phone the University’s Emergency Report Centre directly.

The iPhone version’s ‘Personal Safety Toolbox’ also features a free flashlight function.

Software development for this app was performed by AppArmor Mobile – who can also be contacted directly through this app – and it is now available for free on iPhone, iPad, and Android devices, with a Blackberry version coming soon.

Install or get more information about SeQure at iTunes or on Google Play for Android devices.
