Kingston Links Prominent in “Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women”

The Financial Post in a joint venture with WXN has named Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women, with Kingston and Queen’s University being well represented in its list.

Nine women with local connections were featured, including Leslee Thompson – the CEO and president of Kingston General Hospital.

Thompson began her career as a critical care nurse and, in addition to her position at KGH, is also an assistant professor at Queen’s University.

Major Eleanor Taylor, a graduate of the Royal Military College in Kingston, is likewise listed for her impressive career in the Canadian Armed Forces.

She had her first deployment in 1999 to Kosovo, where Taylor was a rifle platoon commander and later promoted to captain of the battalion’s assault pioneer platoon. And in addition to later posts in Bosnia and Afghanistan, where she was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Taylor worked at the special operations staff of the military’s elite Joint Task Force 2.

Queen’s University alumna who made the Top 100 Most Powerful Women list include: JoAnne Butler (Vice-president, electricity resources, Ontario Power Authority); Alison Loat (Co-founder and executive director, Samara); Marie Delorme (CEO, Imagination Group); Judy Goldring (Executive vice-president and COO, AGF Management Ltd.); Shauneen Bruder (Executive vice-president, operations, Royal Bank of Canada); Mary Ann Turcke (Executive vice-president, field operations, Bell Canada), and Jacqui Allard (Senior vice-president, head of operations and chief investment officer, Investment Division, Manulife Financial Corp).

According to the Queen’s University News Centre, Janice McDonald-  president of iStyleOriginals – is also an advisor for the Cornell-Queen’s Executive MBA program.
