On January 23, 2013, the KFL&A Board of Health elected Mr. Charles Simonds as Chair and Mayor Bud Clayton as Vice-Chair for 2013. Mr. Simonds has been a member of the Board of Health since 2007, and has served as Vice-Chair for the last two years.

“It is indeed an honour to have been elected as the Chair of this prestigious and collegial Board,” said Mr. Simonds, a resident of Battersea. “KFL&A Public Health provides such a diverse and wonderful range of services to promote and protect the health of the residents of this area. As Chair, I am proud to be associated with this agency, and will do my best to live up to the remarkable leadership that our retiring chair, Mrs Beth Pater, has provided to this Board and to KFL&A Public Health over the last few years.”

Mr. Simonds is a graduate of both RMC and Queen’s in Chemical Engineering. He served for over 37 years in the Canadian Armed Forces until his retirement in 1989. After his retirement, he and his wife returned to the Kingston area, where he has served in a variety of ways in the health care system, developing a strong interest in governance.

Mayor Bud Clayton has been a member of the Board since 2010. “I have been extremely humbled by the trust placed in me by my fellow Board Members,” said Mayor Clayton. “I will work diligently with our new Board Chair to keep the high standard set by our retiring Board Chair.”

Mayor Clayton has been Mayor of North Frontenac since December 2010 and has served on the Council of North Frontenac from 2001 to 2006. He has been the representative for the County of Frontenac on the KFL&A Board of Health since he joined the County Council in 2010, where he is now Deputy Warden. He has served on the boards of Pine Meadow Nursing Home and the Land of Lakes Community Services.

The Board also formally thanked Mrs. Pater for her long service to the KFL&A Board of Health. She has served as both a municipal representative from the city of Kingston (2000-2006) and as an appointee by the Minister of Health and Long-term Care (2006-2013).

Other members of the Board for 2013 are: Councillor Bill Cox (County of Lennox & Addington), Councillor Dorothy Hector (City of Kingston), Councillor Liz Schell (City of Kingston), Councillor Jeff Scott (City of Kingston), Mrs. Rosalie Spooner (Community Appointee), and Mr. Ian Wilson (Community Appointee).
