Kingston Police report that 33-year-old Justin R. Hunter, the subject of a Canada-wide arrest warrant for attempted murder, is believed to be in possession of a firearm.
This comes 10 days after Hunter struck a woman with his truck in the city’s downtown – at the intersection of Queen and Sydenham Streets, sending her to hospital with serious injuries.
The driver immediately fled the scene, leading to a search by the Kingston Police Major Crime and Street Crime Units, along with other law enforcement agencies.
Police report receiving information and evidence that Hunter is still in the East Region of Ontario and that he may be armed with a firearm and considered dangerous to both the public and police.
Since the initial release, detectives have been able to speak with the accused’s sister, and now report that her vehicle – a 1997 gray Honda Civic with British Columbia plates – is no longer associated with the search for Hunter.
However, Kingston Police do believe associates of the accused are helping in his efforts to hide from law enforcement.
In their release today, police stated: “The Major Crime Unit advises that if reasonable grounds exist those individuals will be charged with being accessories after the fact to an accused fleeing from a Canada-wide arrest warrant for serious criminal offences. The maximum penalty for being an accessory after the fact involving an attempted murder case is 14 years imprisonment.”
Hunter is described as Caucasian, 5’7” in height, 135 pounds, slim build, fair complexion, short brown hair, green eyes, clean shaven and is often seen wearing a baseball cap.
If he is seen, Kingston Police advise members of the public not to approach or confront Hunter, but to call 9-1-1 or your local police service immediately.
