Everyone who is six months of age and older needs annual immunization against influenza, unless there is a medical reason that prevents them from having it. It is especially important for individuals who are at high risk for influenza-related complications, or who live or work with people who are at high risk for complications, hospitalizations or death, such as health care workers or family members.
“While many myths exist about immunization, the influenza vaccine is the safest, longest-lasting and most effective way to protect yourself and your family and friends from the influenza virus,” said Dr. Ian Gemmill, Medical Officer of Health for KFL&A Public Health. “Most people have no reaction at all to their vaccine, and almost all of those who do have minor side effects, such as a sore arm or mild fever.”
The complete schedule of dates and locations is available on KFL&A Public Health’s website, www.kflapublichealth.ca.
