Kingston Police Investigators assigned to the September murder of Mark (Bramley) Seymour are advising of forensic testing being administered to two balaclavas that were seized in the immediate area of the crime scene shortly after the homicide.
December 14 UPDATE: Kingston Police report this morning: “Detectives from the Kingston Police Major Crime Unit have made arrests in connection with the September 28, 2015 homicide of Mark Seymour.” Click here for details.
Detectives from the Major Crime Unit have confirmed the two black balaclavas found in the vicinity of York Street and Division Street, where Mark Seymour succumbed to his injuries, were collected by Kingston Police forensic identification officers and have been sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences (CFS) in Toronto for the testing of DNA and other physical evidence.
Investigators have also confirmed the balaclavas are products exclusively found in the Dollarama store chain, of which there are five in Kingston. Detectives continue to work in cooperation with store management to collect further evidence on the tracking of inventory and sales of these items.
Detective Sergeant Brian Pete, who oversees the Major Crime Unit, states, “We are pleased with the evidence collected to date and continue to have a strong focus in specific areas of this investigation. We are anticipating favourable results from a forensic perspective, specifically DNA, hair and fiber, and are moving closer to legally and physically proving the identity of the two individuals responsible for the murder of Mr. Seymour.
We are also confident that one suspect holds more direct responsibility for the death of Mark Seymour than the other, and that there are still people in and around the Kingston community who have information which may be invaluable to solving this case. We strongly urge these individuals not to dismiss their knowledge or ignore the fact a man was killed. We would rather have too much information than too little. Please contact us directly or use one of the many ways to do so anonymously, like Crime Stoppers and the TipSubmit app.”
At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Monday, September 28 both police and paramedics were called to the area where the victim was found outside with no vital signs. He was transported to hospital and later pronounced deceased. Information was received that two male suspects were seen fleeing the area west on York Street. Basic descriptions of the pair are Caucasian, wearing dark clothing and estimated to be between 5’10” and 6’0” in height. Detectives have reason to believe one of the suspects, or both, were injured during the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to please contact Detective Adam McMullen at 613-549-4660 ext. 6281 or via email at amcmullen@kpf.ca.
