Family and Children’s Services Celebrate History w. Video

Family and Children’s Services of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington (FACSFLA) – one of the region’s oldest community service organizations – has “teamed up” with Sir John A. MacDonald, Canada’s first prime minister and Kingston’s favorite son.

The organization has created a history video and posters featuring stories and pictures about the world as it was when they opened their doors in 1894.

Sir John A. himself has ‘traveled through time’ to the present to help launch the video in celebration of the organization’s service in the Kingston area for more than 100 years.

“We are proud of our history. Our story is really the story of this community and its people. We were created by local people just like you who wanted to keep children safe. We’ve been doing it ever since,” said Steve Woodman, Executive Director of Family and Children’s Services. “This video and posters will show how far we’ve all come in more than 100 years of service to this community.”

“We’re very pleased to have Sir John A. Macdonald here with us to help us launch this video. He died just three years before we were created. Our thanks goes to The Sir John A. Macdonald Bicentennial Commission for bringing him back to life again for this special occasion,” said Woodman.
