Families and individuals located in Kingston Frontenac Lennox and Addington can apply to receive emergency financial assistance to keep their heat on, courtesy of the annual Union Gas Winter Warmth program.

The program, administered by United Way KFLA in partnership with local agencies, was created to assist eligible low-income natural gas customers who have no other sources for payment.

Union Gas customers who qualify can receive one-time emergency financial assistance of up to $500 per household, per year.

According to KFL&A United Way, over 10,000 low-income Union Gas customers have received Winter Warmth program assistance since 2007, with emergency relief grants totaling over $5 million.

“We know that staying warm during winter months can be especially difficult for low-income households,” said Bhavana Varma, United Way President & CEO. “We’re pleased to partner with Union Gas to help agencies deliver this service to those who may not otherwise be able to keep the heat on.”
