Green Party of Ontario Candidate Robert Kiley encouraged all provincial candidates to participate in the Commuter Challenge today, sending an open letter to the other campaigns in Kingston and The Islands and posting the letter on his social media accounts and website.
The third annual event asks residents to carpool, ride transit, bike, walk or wheel to work during the week of June 1-7, 2014. It is organized in Kingston by the Kingston Coalition for Active Transportation, supported by various community partners such as KFL&A Public Health.
Said Kiley, “The Commuter Challenge promises to spur active lifestyles to promote health and prevent disease. As a previous participant, I know it is both educational and fun. The event also helps lessen greenhouse gas emissions to combat carbon pollution. And the event encourages sharing – cars, buses, and gas money! – to make life more affordable. Simply, the Commuter Challenge makes social, environmental, and economic sense.”
According to the event’s website, the Commuter Challenge is “a week-long event during Canadian Environment Week” which is also Cycle Week in Kingston, sponsored by Cycle Kingston and other community partners. The event is “a friendly competition between Canadian cities and workplaces.” For more information or to sign up visit commuterchallenge.ca.
