Kingston Police report that a 28-year-old man has been arrested for setting a series of overnight fires in the Cataraqui Woods area between November 8th and 9th.

Just before midnight on November 8, Kingston Fire and Rescue were called to two dumpster fires behind the Macs Milk Plaza situated at Princess Street and Bayridge Drive (map). KFD was then called to two nearby house fires in the Cataraqui Woods subdivision approximately 30 minutes later.

Both houses were occupied at the time of the fires but no one was injured. One of the homes was extensively damaged by the fire while the second sustained only minor damage. An investigation revealed signs that another attempt to cause a residential fire in the area had not been successful.

In the early afternoon of Saturday, November 9, Kingston Police Detectives arrested 28-year-old Christopher L. Willey who lives in the same area as these incidents.

Willey – who was remanded into custody after being held in police cells overnight and attending a court appearance on November 10th – is facing several arson-related charges.

The investigation into these fires continues with involvement from Kingston Police, Kingston Fire and Rescue, and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office.
