Sydenham’s Snow Social to Bring Winter Fun to South Frontenac

On Saturday, January 20, the village of Sydenham in South Frontenac Township will host the second annual Snow Social. This free family festival, running from 11 am to 4 pm, promises a variety of activities for all ages.

The festival’s highlights include a diverse array of musical performances at both indoor and outdoor venues. Outdoors, under the big tent, musicians like Bon Evans, Andrew Vanhorn of Celtic Kitchen Party, and the duo Chris Murphy and Jess Wedden are scheduled to perform. Indoors, at the historic Sydenham Legion Hall, attendees can enjoy acts like Evan Jackson, Whiskey Smoke, and Towwns.

Children and young families can look forward to horse-drawn wagon rides through the village, snow tubing, face painting, storytelling, and a comedy magic show at the Sydenham Library. Additionally, Loughborough Public School will host a vendor and craft fair, while Point Park will feature various food vendors.

Mayor Ron Vandewal commented on the event’s organization, saying, “Our Recreation and Events team have done a great job of choosing activities this year that aren’t dependent on the weather and that will appeal to all ages and interests. We have a fantastic musical line-up and many indoor activities for kids, and for families who want to get out and enjoy winter, there will be lots of outdoor activities like snow tubing, wagon rides, fire pits, games and more.”

New to the Snow Social this year are activities organized by the Kingston Forest & Nature School. Also returning are popular events such as a guided bird walk, Indigenous teachings around the fire, and the Elements Fitness & Wellness obstacle course.

The festival’s success is attributed to the support from local businesses, service clubs, agencies partnering with the Township for programming, and volunteers. While admission to the festival is free, donations are welcomed.

Attendees can find free parking at Sydenham High School and Loughborough Public School, with limited parking at The Point Park and Sydenham Library. For safety and to accommodate wagon rides, families are requested not to park on village streets and to dress warmly for the event.
