Kingston Frontenac Public Library (KFPL) is set to host “Spoken Here,” an evening of poetry, language, and culture, with Kingston’s Poet Laureate Sadiqa de Meijer. The event is a celebration of the region’s diverse cultural heritage, offering attendees the opportunity to experience poetry in its original language and English translations.

The event, facilitated by de Meijer, will provide a platform for individuals to share a beloved poem in its native tongue, followed by its English rendition. This format aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the rich poetic traditions that flourish in Kingston Frontenac’s multicultural community.

Jake Miller, Librarian for Adult Programming, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Let the beauty of poetry’s boundless expression inspire your creativity, with talented voices shaping the future of our community.” Miller further commented on the collaboration with de Meijer, highlighting the significance of the event in showcasing the creative talents of newcomers and strengthening the community’s cultural fabric.

The poetry reading event is scheduled to take place on February 12 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Isabel Turner Branch. Interested individuals are encouraged to register in advance, as attendance requires prior registration. Registrations can be made online or by calling 613-549-8888.
