Accidentally pressing the wrong button on a slot machine ended up being a jackpot winning move for a local woman at the OLG Casino Thousand Islands.

Shirley Lima of Amherstview won $33,858 on the CHINA SHORES Konami Machine, which has a free spin feature, after inadvertently hitting the ‘maximum bet’ button.

“I couldn’t believe I was betting $11.25 a spin,” said Lima. “Much to my surprise, that spin entered me into the bonus round of the game.”

She’s been coming to the OLG Casino Thousand Islands since it opened, and was switching between the one cent and five cent denominations on her favourite game when the bonus feature awarded her a Casino-record amount of spins.

“I had more than 700 free spins,” said Shirley, who is planning to use her windfall to pay some bills and take a
vacation. “A crowd gathered around as the machine played out the free spins for well over an hour.”

According to an OLG release, CHINA SHORES is a multi-dimensional game played on a Konami machine which has a free spin bonus feature. The bonus feature is triggered by having a minimum 1 ying-yang symbol on each of the first three reels of a play line. The minimum amount of awarded free spins is 8. However, there is no limit for the amount of free spins.

A provincial agency responsible for Ontario-wide lottery games and gaming facilities, the OLG has provided nearly $40 billion to the Province and its citizens since 1975.
