Kingston to Host 2016 Quidditch Canada Nationals

Quidditch Canada announced this week that the second National Championship will be held in Kingston on April 2nd and 3rd, 2016.

After evaluating costs, availability, field size, and access to transportation and accommodation, Kingston beat out Welland, Ontario to host the games at the 1000 Islands Sportsplex in Westbrook.

The dates were chosen by Quidditch Canada to ensure the games do not conflict with university final exams, including at Queen’s University which has its own Queen’s Quidditch Club that was founded in 2011.

The 1000 Islands Sportsplex was also the site of last year’s Quidditch Eastern Regional Championship – the largest official quidditch tournament to date in Canada’s history.

Those games took place in February, 2015 and featured 17 teams from Ontario and Quebec.

According to the Quidditch Canada website “Quidditch is a competitive full-contact sport based on the game from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books. It is played worldwide by over 400 teams, including 30 in Canada. Quidditch Canada is the Canadian governing body for quidditch, which is played by collegiate, high school, and community teams across the country.”
