The Kingston Grand Theatre will host two performances of O Christmas Tea: A British Comedy on December 18, 2024, at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. This celebrated production, blending physical comedy, sharp wordplay, and interactive elements, is a nod to classic British pantomimes and is expected to draw fans of Monty Python, Mr. Bean, and Dr. Seuss.
James & Jamesy, the British comedy duo comprised of Aaron Malkin and Alastair Knowles, have performed their award-winning tea-themed productions for over a decade. Known for their precise comedic timing, physical humor, and engaging on-stage chemistry, the pair have delighted audiences across North America with a blend of absurdity and festive humor.
The duo’s flagship production, O Christmas Tea, has become a cherished tradition for thousands of theatergoers. The show invites audiences to immerse themselves in a whimsical world where imagination and reality blur. “Theatre is in its essence an exercise in imagination, a suspension of disbelief,” said Alastair Knowles, who portrays the eccentric Jamesy. “O Christmas Tea focuses on, and plays with, this distinction.”
The dynamic between the characters is central to the production. For James, the events on stage are fictitious, while Jamesy perceives them as real, creating a comedic tension that eventually draws the audience into their playful world. Knowles explained, “We want adults to leave feeling lighter, more playful, and with a deeper connection not only with their immediate companions, but also with the entire audience who shared in the magical experience.”
Aaron Malkin, who plays James, noted the family-oriented nature of the production, emphasizing its ability to foster togetherness. “At this time of year, we’re inspired to dream big and tap into our child-like imagination,” he said. “O Christmas Tea is a show that brings family and friends together. For those who’ve already made it part of their holiday tradition, we’re excited to introduce new elements that will make this year’s performance even more unforgettable.”
The production has grown in scope and reach, with this year’s tour encompassing 60 performances in 37 cities across North America. “Every year the tour gets bigger and the show develops, which keeps the whole experience fresh and thrilling for audiences and ourselves,” Malkin said.
