The Kingston Military Family Resource Centre (KMFRC), a cornerstone for support within the military community, is marking its 30th anniversary in March 2024 with a series of celebrations. Established as a non-profit, charitable organization, KMFRC has dedicated three decades to providing essential services aimed at bolstering the resilience and stability of military families facing challenges such as absences, relocations, and transitions.

Originally conceptualized in 1980 through the establishment of a Co-Operative Family Centre, KMFRC was formally incorporated on March 28, 1994. Over the years, its contributions have significantly impacted the lives of military families in Kingston, a fact that the organization and its volunteer Board of Directors are preparing to celebrate.

The month-long celebration will kick off with an online 50/50 fundraiser starting March 1st, alongside a social media campaign that will showcase the KMFRC’s rich history. The fundraiser, a first for the organization, will support the continuation of KMFRC’s vital services. Tickets for the 50/50 fundraiser are available for purchase online.

Highlighting the anniversary festivities is a community celebration set for Saturday, March 23rd, from 1pm to 4pm at the KMFRC location on 32 Lundy’s Lane. The event promises a range of family-friendly activities, including face painting, community game challenges, a balloonist, and more. Additionally, the newly launched ‘YOUth Matter’ room will be open for young guests to explore, and a retrospective exhibition titled “Through the Years” will be on display. Attendees will also enjoy family-friendly charcuterie and refreshments.

The event will feature the live draw of the 50/50 fundraiser at 3pm and will honor the contributions of KMFRC and Personnel Support Program community volunteers.

Colleen Fairholme, Executive Director of KMFRC, reflected on the organization’s evolution from its early days as a voluntary initiative. Beth MacLean, President of the KMFRC Board of Directors, highlighted the growth of the center, from five employees in 1994 to 52 today, emphasizing the critical role of community and volunteer support in the center’s success.
