The Kingston Symphony will launch its 2024-2025 season on Sunday, September 29, 2024, with a Masterworks concert titled “The Golden Age of Hollywood” at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts.
The program will feature iconic film scores from the 1930s to 1950s, including music from “Casablanca,” “Robin Hood,” “Sunset Boulevard,” and “Singin’ in the Rain.” This period, marked by the exceptional talent of musicians and composers in the MGM and Warner Bros. orchestras, produced some of the most enduring and renowned film music.
According to Music Director Evan Mitchell, “The ‘Golden Age’ of cinema essentially reaches for about 30 years from 1930 to 1960, broadly. I fervently believe that some of the greatest music of the 20th century was written in this period.”
The concert will showcase suites from notable composers, including Max Steiner’s “Casablanca,” Bernard Herrmann’s “Psycho,” Franz Waxman’s “Sunset Boulevard,” and Erich Korngold’s “The Adventures of Robin Hood,” which Mitchell considers “one of the very finest scores of all time.”
“Every note in this concert is authentic. This is going to be the largest orchestra of the year. It’s going to be incredible!” added Mitchell.
The performance will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Isabel Bader Centre, located at 390 King Street West. Complete concert listing.
