Kingston Baroque Consort to Perform Handel and Bach at St. James Church

The Kingston Baroque Consort will present a concert titled “Baroque Celebration” on Friday, March 28, at 5:15 p.m. at St. James Church, located at 10 Union Street. The performance will include works by Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel.

The program will feature Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks, which includes the “Grand Overture of warlike instruments” scored for Baroque trumpets and horns. Additionally, the ensemble will perform Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 2.

Tickets are priced at $25 for adults and $10 for students, with free admission for attendees under 17. Tickets can be purchased at Novel Idea, located at 156 Princess Street, or by contacting legerek@queensu.ca or calling 613-217-5099. Further information is available at kingstonbaroqueconsort.ca.

The Kingston Baroque Consort, founded in 2021, is dedicated to historically informed performances of Baroque music. The ensemble was established by Katie Legere, Jeff Hamacher, Julia McFarlane, and Michael Capon. The group consists of professional musicians drawn from the Kingston Symphony Orchestra and the broader community.

Performers include Gisele Dalbec-Szczesniak, Andrew Dicker, Lisa Draper, Venetia Gauthier, Danielle Lennon, and Julia McFarlane on violin. Eileen Beaudette will perform on viola, with Jeff Hamacher on cello and viola da gamba. William Egnatoff will play flute, while Heather Schreiner will perform on recorder. Katie Legere will perform on bassoon and recorder, and Michael Capon will perform on harpsichord.
