Award winning singer-songwriter JP Cormier is set to hit the stage at Napanee’s Doghouse Studios on Friday, January 31 with special guest Chris Murphy.
Cormier, who taught himself to play the guitar at the age of 5, was considered a genuine prodigy by the age of 9 when he won his first guitar competition against 30 other players three times his age.
He recorded his first album of bluegrass instrumentals at 16 and went on to live and perform in the United States, including many nights at the Grand Ole Opry with artists such as Marty Stuart, Earl Scruggs, Vince Gill, and Waylon Jennings who said of Cormier “I would be proud to share the stage with him anytime, anywhere.” The late, great “Mr Guitar” himself, Chet Atkins, also praised Cormier talent, calling him “one of the most important guitar players of his generation.”
Cormier has released over a dozen award-winning albums since returning to Canada and performs 250 shows a year.
You can catch him at Doghouse Studios, 99 Dairy Avenue in Napanee, on January 31 at 7pm. Tickets are $30 in advance and are available now through Ticketscene.ca and at Second Debut in Napanee or Brian’s Record Option in Kingston.
